Many factors can lead to a motor vehicle accident, especially when the driver is distracted or impaired. Drinking and driving leaves people behind the wheel whose reaction times may not be what they should be as they attempt to navigate the roadways. A recent truck accident in Louisiana resulted in the injury of a motorcyclist.
A 50-year-old man was driving his tractor-trailer along the road one Friday night before he allegedly passed out behind the wheel. The truck veered out of control and off the street as it passed through an intersection. Before coming to a stop in a ditch, the tractor-trailer struck a motorcycle, sending the motorcyclist flying off of the bike and pinning the bike under the 18-wheeler’s front tire.
The 50-year-old man operating the motorcycle was found along the side of the road in critical condition. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he remains with serious injuries. Authorities report that the 56-year-old man who was driving had slurred speech and is believed to have been intoxicated, as well as under the influence of drugs.
The driver of the tractor-trailer is facing charges for DWI, reckless operation of an automobile and first-degree neglect injury. He has been arrested and awaits trial. The man who suffered such severe injury has the right to file claims for his personal injury against the driver deemed responsible and possibly against the driver’s employer. These claims may provide some compensation for the medical expenses he now faces as a result of this Louisiana truck accident.
